Jared Dicus, accused of beheading his wife, the Nicaraguan Anggy Díaz, met the young woman in Texas while she was working at the “Chepes Meat Market.”
Díaz worked for about 3 years in the butcher shop in Magnolia and was well liked by her colleagues, who described her as a very cheerful young woman who was always smiling.
His colleagues told the press that they never imagined that the relationship between Díaz and Dicus would end in such a bloody and tragic way.
“She was happy, very happy with her husband,” said Verónica Jiménez, who was Díaz’s boss.
However, the woman sensed that something was not quite right after the Hispanic wedding.
“But there were days when she was different. She was tired, but I wasn’t sure if it was because of work or the relationship, ”added KHOU Jiménez.
Díaz, 21, migrated to Texas when he turned 18, where he met his biological mother.
Her aunt María Libertad Díaz was the one who raised her in El Viejo, Nicaragua, in the absence of her mother.
Part of the income he generated, sometimes working double shifts, he sent to Libertad Díaz to help her with treatment for the cancer he suffered.
Security camera footage from the business hours after the murder captured the moment Dicus enters the establishment, grabs a beer from the fridge, and leaves without paying.
Díaz and Dicus were married in a private civil ceremony last October shortly after they met.
The motive for the crime is unknown. Dicus, who would have confessed to the events on January 11 after his parents discovered the victim’s remains in the house they both shared, remains in custody on $1 million bail. The judge increased the amount this week, having initially been assessed $500,000.
Prosecutors in the case cited Dicus’s violent tendencies and the atrocity of the crime in requesting a doubling of the sum.
At the time of the murder, the young man was out on bail for a DWI case last November in which he behaved violently against officers.
