Authorides are investigating the case of an assistant principal at Mount Pleasant High School in Rhode Island, who sent an email to her colleagues to complete the $5,000 that a student must pay to a “coyote” from a cartel.
In her message, Assistant Principal Stefany Harvey said the “coyote” had helped a student get to the United States, but had to pay him the remaining $2,000.
Harvey’s email was leaked and posted on social media, including Twitter, but Fox News, the Daily Caller and The New York Post confirmed the message was true.
“We have a student who came to the United States with a ‘coyote,’ which is a group that helps people,” Stefani Harvey wrote in the message. “This group gives you a deadline to make a payment of $5,000 to those who bring them to the states.”
Providence Public School District spokesman Nick Dominings confirmed that there was more than one email about it.
“I can confirm that the email in question was sent to staff at Mount Pleasant High School,” Dominings said in a statement. “The school principal immediately took steps to have a retraction issued when she learned of the email.”
The Providence Public School District is now investigating the facts.
School authorities do not make it clear where the student is from nor was a police report made.
Immigrant advocates have warned people who try to travel to the US to avoid any agreement with “coyotes”, since they are people who only seek their economic benefit without caring about the future of migrants.
