Colombian authorities captured this weekend a man who murdered a 10-year-old girl in the municipality of Pitalito, in the southern department of Huila.
“The Prosecutor’s Office charged (Jonathan Francisco) García Tapias as the alleged perpetrator of the crimes of aggravated homicide, attempted aggravated homicide and aggravated animal abuse. The defendant did not accept the charges and received a measure of confinement in prison,” the Colombian Prosecutor’s Office reported in a statement posted on Twitter.
According to the authorities, the heinous crime was perpetrated last Friday when the subject arrived at a house in the La Virginia neighborhood of Pitalito and injured the girl with a sharp object.
In the house was the grandmother of the minor and a pet, who tried to defend the girl, however, they were also attacked by the man. The 67-year-old woman was “severely injured” and the dog died instantly.
“The two victims were transferred to a hospital in the municipality where the minor died while the grandmother is in a serious state of health,” the Prosecutor’s Office emphasized.
Through a video broadcast on the same social network, the commander of the Huila Police, Colonel Gustavo Camargo, explained that the murderer had been released from prison two days before committing this crime and said that “he was paying a sentence for sexual crimes.” .
The officer said that after “the rapid reaction” of the authorities, they managed to arrest the subject when he was hiding under a bridge.
In this sense, the Prosecutor’s Office said that when he was arrested, García had the knife with which he apparently committed the crime and, in addition, “the uniformed officers observed blood stains on his clothes.”
