The death of a Bronx youth who lost his life after an altercation with his stepfather has been ruled a homicide, the city’s medical examiner said.
The victim identified as 15-year-old Corde Scott died of “homicidal asphyxia, including neck compression,” the medical examiner’s spokesman said Friday.
Paramedics found the unconscious teen inside his family’s Westchester Square residence on Doris Street near Lyon Avenue Monday afternoon.
Corde and his stepfather were inside the apartment when an argument began that apparently turned physical, authorities said.
The young man was pronounced dead at the Jacobi Medical Center, when doctors discovered that he had bruises on his neck and throat, police sources said.
The victim’s stepfather told family members while in the emergency room that the boy had a tantrum, when he suddenly stopped breathing and collapsed.
The doctor who would have pronounced Corde dead called police immediately, the sources said. Lavell Scott, the teen’s uncle, said officers questioned the stepfather at the hospital.
The stepfather was questioned again by officers at the 45th Precinct Police Station on Tuesday and he was released later the same day.
No charges had been filed as of Friday afternoon, the Daily News reported.
The suspect was released from state prison nearly a month before the youth’s death after serving a three-and-a-half-year sentence for felony assault in The Bronx. In addition, he served time for an attempted robbery, according to records.
