A woman was killed early Saturday morning after being ejected from a vehicle in an alcohol-related crash on Staten Island, authorities said.
The driver, identified as 30-year-old Adem Nikeziq, was arrested and faces charges including manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, driving while intoxicated, the New York police said.
Nikeziq’s white Dodge sedan was speeding south on Hylan Blvd. near Rose Ave. in New Drop at about 4:45 a.m. when he lost control of it.
The car crashed into a barrier wall and a power pole before breaking into three pieces and finally coming to a stop, the Daily News reported.
“It appears the vehicle struck a utility pole,” an NYPD spokesperson said.
The 23-year-old fatality was in the front passenger seat when she was thrown from the sedan.
She was found lying on the asphalt and died at the scene of her injuries, while Nikeziq suffered minor injuries.
So far she has not been immediately identified because law enforcement officials are still tracking her family.
