A school bus driver’s taste for crossword puzzles led her to win a huge lottery prize in North Carolina. Paula Harris, 59, was in a store when she tried her luck with a $5 ticket to the Cashword Multiplier game. “I love crossword puzzles,” Harris said in a Jan. 28 news release. “Those are my favorites.”
It turns out that his desire to solve crossword puzzles paid off. And it is that the scratch-off ticket with the theme of a crossword puzzle that he bought had a jackpot of $ 150,000 dollars, according to the portal The News & The Observer.
“I was so excited. Now I can afford my house,” Harris told lottery officials.
Authorities said Harris purchased his winning ticket at a Speedway store on West Third Street in the city of Ayden, which is about 90 miles southeast of Raleigh.
Immediately after winning, he told his children about the prize. “They couldn’t believe it either,” she said, adding that she hopes to use some of her prize money to help them.
Harris reportedly was ultimately left with $106,876 after paying taxes.
It’s not the first time a North Carolina lottery winner has been passionate about playing a game. In September, officials said a retired teacher’s taste for bingo prompted her to buy a ticket that won her the jackpot.
