erika-cruz:-“i-admire-amanda-serrano,-but-i-don't-shrink”

The Mexican fighter Erika Cruz faces the Puerto Rican Amanda Serrano next Saturday in a fight that she is aware that she can be victorious.

Although the World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight world champion acknowledges that Serrano is a good fighter, she knows that she is not invincible and will do her best to defeat her.

“I admire Amanda Serrano, but I don’t shrink. In my mind and in my heart I know that I trained to beat her and I will leave no doubts,” Cruz said in an interview with the EFE news agency.

The 32-year-old boxer traveled to New York City this Sunday to make final preparations for the fight.

“I am in my best moment as a professional and I will give everything in a fight that should be intense; I can almost guarantee that it will go to 10 rounds and it will be decided by decision, hopefully in our favor. I prepared myself for 10 intense rounds,” added Cruz.

The Mexican has a record of 15 wins and one loss. Three of her victories have come by knockout, and she holds the WBA 126-pound title. While Serrano has the rest of the belts in that division.

This represents one of the most anticipated fights at the beginning of 2023 in terms of women’s boxing.

“I’m not afraid. Now I am happy to face a great rival like Serrano. I have never seen her, although they tell me that she is a little taller than me, which does not matter. I have worked hard in the last few months and I am confident that I will win, ”she said.
