The 10 of the Argentine team, Lionel Messi, gave an interview for the first time to talk about what it was like to have won the Qatar 2022 World Cup, almost a month and a half after the final against France at the Lusail stadium.
In an interview for host Andy Kusnetzoff, Messi revealed various details about his internship with Argentina’s third World Cup title.
The interview was divided into several stages: an initial 45-minute one where the PSG star told what he felt after having lifted the World Cup and then another where he talked about the stories, interactions and anecdotes he lived with fans.
“Luckily what we dreamed of so much came true, what I wanted so much throughout my career and it came almost to the end,” was part of the first message that Kusnetzoff was encouraged to tell.
For Messi, it was important to thank God for giving him the strength to win the competition, even though he always “knew” that he was going to give him that gift one day.
“I always thank God. I knew that he was going to give me a World Cup, I don’t know, I felt it,” Messi said.
Another of Messi’s curious stories came just as the time for the award was coming, in which he assured that he felt that the trophy told him that it was finally time to raise it.
“The Cup called me and told me: ‘That’s it, come, grab me, now you can,'” he added.
Lastly, he spoke of the dark moments he lived with the Argentine National Team when he was criticized for losing the finals in 2014, 2015 and 2016, but declaring that winning the World Cup was the closure he expected.
“I had received a lot of criticism of all colors and I knew that my family suffered much more than me. Unfair things were said towards me, which went beyond football and that was what really bothered me and hurt me. It was closing the circle, we won the Copa América, the World Cup, that’s it, there’s nothing left, “he concluded.
