A Michigan woman spent just $5 on a Pick-Six ticket and was shocked to see she had won $300,000.
“I purchased the ticket on New Year’s Eve using a $5 free play coupon that I won by playing second chance games,” the (unidentified) woman told Michigan Lottery officials.
“I scratched off the ticket when I got in my car and when I saw that I had won $300,000, I couldn’t believe it! I checked the ticket several times and scanned it into the Lottery app to confirm the amount. When the $300,000 appeared on the screen with confetti, I called my family and friends to tell them the good news,” the woman said.
However, the unnamed 41-year-old did not rush to claim her prize right away. She recently handed over the ticket. She said she plans to pay the bills, take a vacation and save her earnings, “presumably in that order.”
The Cashword Times 5 winning ticket was purchased at the Beverage Expression West Road in Trenton.
In a similar recent case, a Michigan man won the $107,590 top prize in the Money Match Fast Cash lottery game by investing in a ticket with the money back from the cashier for a purchase.
Matthew Spaulding, 41, of West Bloomfield, purchased the winning ticket at a Mobil gas station, located at 3267 South State Street in Ann Arbor.
“I was paying at the gas station, and the cashier gave me $5 change back,” Spaulding told Michigan Lottery Connect on Wednesday, Jan. 25. “I don’t usually play Fast Cash, but I saw a Fast Cash sign by the register and told him I wanted to use my change for a Money Match ticket,” added the lucky man.
“I looked at the ticket as I was walking out of the store and when I saw that I had hit the jackpot, I completely lost control. I scared some customers because I started shouting and celebrating. It was an incredible feeling!” the man described.
Spaulding, who recently visited lottery offices to claim the prize, plans to pocket the winnings.
