The future of the Mexican National Team is in the midst of a predicament as it has not yet found a technical director who can take the position left by Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino after his dismissal due to his poor performance during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Until now the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) handles various names such as Miguel Herrera, Guillermo Almada, Marcelo Bielsa, among others, although none of them have been made official to date.
Faced with this situation, the historic captain of the Tri, Rafael Márquez, offered his opinion this week on what a coach really needs to have to be able to sit on the bench of the national team and really register positive results in international matches.
“It is really difficult to say a name or profile because there are so many conditions that a coach must have to lead a team, the most important thing is that it be someone who knows Mexican soccer, who is very well prepared to try to give it an important level. to Mexican soccer,” Márquez said at a press conference after a Barcelona B game.
Likewise, Márquez argued that in order to achieve victories it is necessary to make a change in the structure of Mexican soccer, which has constantly increased its blockade for the growth of the country’s players and encourages foreign figures.
“One very important thing is that they let him work, give him all the necessary support so that he can develop the soccer players and hopefully at some point the entire structure of how Mexican soccer is formed will also change, if it doesn’t change that will be difficult. change the level and development of Mexican players”, he highlighted.
Márquez wants more Mexicans in Barcelona
During the press conference, the technical director of Barcelona B also expressed his desire to open the doors to more Mexican soccer players at the Catalan institution, especially after the rumors about the signing of Julián Aráujo.
“It is open to everyone who has the profile. If it is Mexican, it will be analyzed, there are many filters but the door is not closed and I would be delighted, ”he concluded.
