benfica-has-pocketed-more-than-$1.5-billion-since-the-2010/11-season

Sign cheap and sell expensive. This has been the economic formula of a Benfica that, more and more, shows that it knows how to choose the promises very well so that, after training them in its team, it sells them at a very good price.

The most recent example is that of the Argentine Enzo Fernández, a player that Benfica acquired in June 2022 for $49 million dollars. Now, he has sold it on January 31, 2023 for $131 million.

But this is just a sample of what the Portuguese club has been doing. And it is that according to reports from some media in mid-2022, Benfica had already raised some $1,344 million to date.

The five players from whom Benfica has obtained the most economic benefit

  • João Félix (Atletico Madrid, 2019): $127 million
  • Enzo Fernandez (Chelsea): $131 million
  • Darwin Núñez (Liverpool, 2022): 108 million
  • Rúben Dias (Manchester City, 2020): 74 million
  • Ederson (Manchester City, 2017): 43 million euros

This, without mentioning that Los Encarnados have been the starting point for players like Ángel di María (Real Madrid, 2010): 35 million and Raúl Jiménez (Wolverhampton, 2019) 41 million euros.

Currently, the team is the leader of the Portuguese First Division with 50 points, ten points more than its closest competitor, Braga, which has 40.

In the UEFA Champions League, they finished first in Group H with a perfect record, the same one they shared with Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Maccabi Aifa. Now, they will face Club Bruges in the round of 16.
