immigrant-baby-hit-and-killed-in-new-jersey;-driver-fled

A 4-year-old baby recently arrived in the US was killed and two other people were injured by a vehicle that fled the scene last night in Newark, the most populous city in New Jersey.

The incident occurred along Sixth Avenue West and North 9th Street. The baby died at the scene, while other children and an adult were injured and reported in stable condition. The names of the victims were not released by authorities, but the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said the injured adult was the baby’s father, according to News 12.

A man who identified himself as the uncle of the fatality told ABC News that he had passed the scene of the accident on his way to work just after sunset yesterday, but did not realize that he was witnessing the tragedy of his own family.

“I was coming from the building and I saw the man on the floor right here,” Mohamed Toure recounted. When he got to work, his wife called him. “I was asking her what was going on and she said the man I saw on the floor is my brother.”

He added that his now-deceased niece and her family recently moved to the United States from Mali, “in search of a better future.” “We need stop signs on both sides or light or something like that,” Toure lamented. “Every day there is a car accident. Every day”.
