The tennis player Novak Djokovic achieved his 22nd Grand Slam last Monday by winning the Australia Open against the Greek Stéfanos Tsitsipás, but this Wednesday it was revealed that the Serb played the entire tournament with a muscle tear in his thigh.
The information was confirmed by Craig Tiley director of the Australian Open. “There was a lot of speculation about whether it was true or not but I have seen the scans and the doctors will tell the truth: he had a three-centimeter tear in the hamstring in his left leg,” Tiley said in an interview for Australian radio SEN Sportsday.
Tiley himself praised the tennis player’s ability to maintain his level despite the injury, “it’s hard to believe that someone can do what he (Djokovic) does with this type of injury, but he is extraordinary,” the Australian closed.
On the other hand, Djokovic days ago at a press conference had stated that he no longer felt pain in his leg “Let those who want to do it continue to doubt. When others get injured they are the victims, but if it’s me then I’m faking it.”
In addition, apparently in 2021 the same thing happened, the European played the tournament with an abdominal injury, although he stated that: “I am used to these things and, without a doubt, they give me more strength”
Djokovic won his tenth Australia Open and is the top winner of this competition, also equaling Rafael Nadal in number of Grand Slams with 22 trophies each.
