A driver who was practically debuting his $56,000 Tesla Model Y got a tremendous scare because he was driving and suddenly the steering wheel came off.
Motortrend released Prerak’s Twitter tweets this week, with the @preneh24 account, who posted photos and a gif of the unfortunate experience on the social network:
“The family was excited to take delivery of the Tesla Y on 1/24/2023. I was driving on the highway and suddenly the steering wheel fell off, I was lucky that there was no car behind, ”says the message from the surprised driver.
Testimonials show images of the Tesla Model Y in traffic, but luckily the driver was able to move the car to the side of the road without further incident, before the vehicle was towed away for repairs.
In the images you can see the steering wheel wiring separated from its assembly area, practically on the driver’s legs.
Prerak asked Tesla for a full refund and the return of the vehicle, because he did not feel safe driving it. But the Elon Musk-run company appears to have ignored the message, as other screens show a scheduled appointment for repairs and a fee owed by the owner. According to the post, Tesla did waive the service charge, but did not take direct responsibility for the incident.
Then Prerak also tweeted at Tesla: “Am I responsible for the manufacturing defect? It’s not even a week and I get the bill for the defective steering wheel. Isn’t it the company’s responsibility to repair it? I would very much appreciate a refund and keeping the car as we have lost trust and the family does not feel safe driving.” return it”.
Unfortunately, this is the second time that a Tesla has had the same problem with a detached steering wheel, as in April 2020, the same thing happened to the owner of a Tesla Model 3 sedan.
In that incident, Twitter user Jason T also shared images of the detached steering wheel from his new month-old car.
