The “Dances with Wolves” actor will remain behind bars until at least next week after being accused of raping five underage wives as part of a sex cult in Las Vegas.
Nathan Chasing Horse, 46, faces multiple charges in a North Las Vegas court including sexual assault of children under 16, sex trafficking and sexual assault.
The defendant was arrested earlier this month at the Las Vegas home he shared with the victims.
The investigation that led to the arrest spanned more than two decades, according to national media reports. Allegedly, the actor was the leader of the sect “The Circle”, whose members believe they can communicate with higher powers.
An Associated Press report indicates that the defendant even trained the victims, most of them indigenous, to use weapons and shoot police officers if they came to the house. In case this plan failed, Chasing Horse instructed them to take “suicide” pills.
At the alleged pervert’s ranch, investigators seized a memory card with videos of various sexual assaults, as well as psilocybin mushrooms and 41 pounds of marijuana.
One of the man’s wives was allegedly given as a gift on his 15th birthday. Another of the victims became the wife of Chasing Horse when he turned 16.
The defendant played “Smiles a Lot” a member of the Sioux tribe in the Kevin Costner film, “Dances with Wolves,” which won an Oscar. Chasing Horse began to be recognized among various indigenous tribes in the United States and Canada for supposed healing ceremonies. But, judging by the accusations against him, the alleged doctor abused his position to take advantage of girls and women.
Next Monday Chasing Horse must appear at a hearing on the case to discuss his bail.
