emanuel-navarrete-makes-history-by-beating-liam-wilson-and-becomes-a-three-time-world-champion-in-different-weights

This Saturday at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, the Mexican Emanuel Navarrete and the Australian Liam Wilson faced each other. The “Vaquero”, who was about to be knocked out, took the victory by technical knockout in round 9 and thus became super featherweight champion to enter the history of Mexican boxing as a three-time champion in three different divisions.

The first round started with few connections for both fighters and they dedicated themselves to studying each other, and in the second round some goals were exchanged and in the third Navarrete was able to connect many more to Wilson.

However, the fourth round was the worst for the Mexican, as Wilson threw him to the canvas at the best moment of the Australian and the “Cowboy” was practically saved by the bell.

In the fifth and sixth round Navarrete matched and was able to recover from that fall to the canvas. Twice the Australian was on the ground before receiving a defining offensive from the Mexican. The judge stopped the fight at one minute to finish the ninth round to decree the final technical knockout.

With this victory, Emanuel Navarrete entered the select group of three-time Mexican champions, achieving it in three different categories and registering his name along with those of Julio César Chávez, Érik Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera, Juan Manuel Márquez, Jorge Arce, Fernando Montiel, Abner Mares and Saul Alvarez.
