What would be a day of celebration within an Italian company turned into a terrible drama after the untimely death of one of its most senior workers, just as everyone was celebrating that this was his last day on the job.
Michele Barco, 59, had worked for 3 decades for the Belvest clothing company in the province of Padua, Italy, and January 31 would be her last day of work in order to fully live out her retirement.
For this, Barco would have brought sandwiches, cake and some bottles to make a toast with his colleagues at the end of the working day. Unfortunately, in the middle of the celebration, the man passed out and had no vital signs.
Immediately, her colleagues asked the paramedics for help and when they arrived at the company, they only confirmed that Michele had died, most likely from a sudden heart attack.
The tragedy shocked everyone, to the point that operations were immediately suspended: a kind of silent tribute to a person everyone knew and respected.
The man was well known and loved in his locality; it was known that he was single and that he lived with his elderly mother in a town called Piazzola, where he was born and that he never wanted to leave. He was also an expert in his trade, so he taught many young people how to do the job he did.
It also transpired that Barco had no heart problems and was considered a very healthy person.
