The lifeless bodies of a 27-year-old mother and her 8-year-old son, who had been missing since last Monday, appeared this Friday near a beach in the Paysandú department (northwest) of Uruguay after an intense search by local authorities.

According to the local press, sources from the Ministry of the Interior reported that the Police Headquarters of that town found “various indications” indicating that both people were murdered.

They also detailed that the 27-year-old mother’s brother was arrested and will testify before the Prosecutor’s Office in the next few hours.

The woman and her son were last seen alive on January 30, later, relatives filed a complaint of the disappearance of both people on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, the local police explained that during the search “possible indications” were found, such as a backpack with belongings as well as clothes in a stream near the place where the search was focused.

This case has shocked Uruguayan public opinion and since the discovery the authorities have been working on the scene to try to clarify the facts.
