The French forward and main star of the UANL Tigers, André-Pierre Gignac, reached an agreement with the club’s board of directors to extend his contract until 2025 in order to fulfill his long-awaited dream of being able to retire as a professional footballer within the team that made him quite a figure after being part of their ranks for 10 years.
The information was released by the university team through their social networks by sharing a video with various postcards and iconic plays of the French attacker throughout his career within the institution that Diego Cocca now commands.
In an interview with TUDN, Gignac said that it is a great joy for him to receive this confidence from the team, especially for allowing him to retire from the institution as one of its best players in history.
“Being able to finish my career at Tigres has been my dream since I arrived. I don’t know, there was something, something that cannot be counted, it is something that you have inside and the pleasure of being able to announce that I will be able to celebrate 10 years in this club in 2025 and finish my career here in Tigres, thanks to the trust of my institution , directive, coaching staff I have renewed my contract for two more years, ”he said.
The Frenchman stressed that he has always felt a “special connection” with the team since his arrival in 2015, especially because of the support he has received over the years from the fans and his teammates.
“I have always said it since I felt that special connection with the club, with the institution, the people, the city, it became a dream and it is also sad news because finishing a career is not great, but there are other stages after this. You know it well, you miss playing soccer, that smell, the grass, the people, the adrenaline, the nerves, the competitiveness,” he added.
“I’m still focused on what’s left of my career and it may be that in 2025 I’ll feel good and I’ve scored 40 goals in two years and I’m going to continue scoring goals, but for now it’s my 10th year at the club and then we’ll see, I’ll have to make a decision in 2025, 39 years. I don’t want to retire with only goals, I want titles, cups, I want group things, to be able to celebrate, celebrate with my teammates, because if I am in this situation today, I assure you that 70% of it is thanks to them, the group, teammates , coaching staff and institution”, he concluded.
In the current Clausura 2023 tournament, Gignac has demonstrated his great scoring ability by registering three goals and two assists in all the Tigres’ games. He is currently in search of 200 goals within the feline franchise.
