dominican-republic-loses-another-star-for-the-world-baseball-classic:-new-york-yankees-do-not-give-permission-to-luis-severino

The Dominican Republic baseball team is going through a difficult moment in the selection of the players that will be part of its team for the World Baseball Classic that will be held next March, since one of its main figures will not be able to defend the colors of your country.

What happens is that the pitcher Luis Severino will not be able to be part of the national team because he does not receive permission from the New York Yankees, who do not want him to suffer any wear and tear prior to spring training and especially before the 2023 season of the big leagues.

The information was released by the Dominican journalist Héctor Gómez, who revealed through his social networks that the decision to exclude the Dominican starter from the World Baseball Classic was made by the general manager of the ‘Bronx Bombers’ Brian Cashman.

“SOURCE: Starting pitcher Luis Severino will not pitch for the Dominican Republic in the 2023 WBC because New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman wouldn’t let him,” Gomez said on his Twitter account.

The decision to leave Severino out of the tournament would be driven by the constant injuries that the pitcher suffered during the last three seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB), so this year they will have him much more controlled to avoid his loss again.

The goal of the Yankees for this year is to keep him as healthy as possible so that he can perform as one of the starters in their rotation and thus best shield the team with pitching to try to win the World Series.

Severino’s absence adds to the loss of fellow starter Luis Castillo, who did not receive approval from the Seattle Mariners to have him from day one in spring training.
