The city of Miami, in the state of Florida, is already preparing to organize the 2024 Caribbean Series, a baseball competition in which all the champions of each of the leagues that make up the Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation (CBPC) participate. .
The organization in charge of the sports event continues to prepare all the necessary topics to be able to meet the expectations of one of the most important tournaments on the continent. One of the points that will change for this tournament will be the decrease in the number of teams that will participate.
This information was released by the representative of the Miami Marlins, Chema Sánchez, who maintained that the number of teams will decrease with respect to the Greater Caracas 2023 Caribbean Series, held in Venezuela, since they do not have the infrastructures to have eight participating teams.
In an interview for the El Emergente portal, Sánchez explained that they only have one stadium available to play all the matches, compared to the two sports arenas that Venezuela opened for this sporting event. Likewise, he maintained that they are analyzing which countries to invite to the 2024 Caribbean Series and that the only ones with a secure quota are Puerto Rico, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Venezuela.
“We are studying who they should be. In Miami, for example, there is an important community of Nicaraguans. That is something that could prove beneficial to the organization. And in Nicaragua there is also a professional baseball league,” he said.
Miami’s Loan Depot Park will be the scene of the competition in which the Miami Marlins expect to have an important participation by being part of the organizing committee, something in which they were not involved the last time it was played in the country.
“We are part of the organization. That marks a difference compared to the previous experience of the Caribbean Series in Miami. We want to be part of the rotation of venues with the other countries”, added Sánchez to Emergente.
