The historic captain of the Mexican National Team and current coach of Barcelona B, Rafael Márquez, has become one of the candidates from the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) to form part of the coaching staff that will accompany the new coach of El Tri who It will be announced in the next few days.
The ‘Kaiser’ is emerging as the new technical assistant of the Aztec national team and as technical director of the Under 23 team, this being an important step in his career as a coach.
According to the Mexican portal Mediotiempo, Márquez has already been interviewed by Rodrigo Ares de Parga and Jaime Ordiales, executive director of the National Team and sports director, respectively. Both parties left with good impressions of the conversation, so the arrival of Márquez to the Mexican National Team could happen in a couple of days.
If he accepts the job, the most important role for Márquez would be with the Mexico Under-23 team, a team that will not participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics, but will have a very attractive future internationally.
The U-23 squad of the Aztecs will participate in the Maurice Revello Tournament, in the Central American Games in San Salvador and in the Pan American Games in Chile, so they need a technical director who can encourage them to reach gold in these competitions; the FMF considers that Márquez may be this man due to the success he has registered with Barcelona B.
Regarding his work as an assistant in the Mexican National Team, he could become the Tri strategist in case of an emergency or early dismissal, facts that would draw even more attention to the iconic captain of the Aztecs.
It is important to remember that the first option to be a technical assistant was Jaime Lozano, who rejected the offer to remain as coach of the UANL Tigres in the MX League.
Among the candidates to take over the Tri bench are Miguel Herrera, Guillermo Almada and Marcelo Bielsa, who have held talks with the federation in recent weeks to determine which of them would be the best to take the reins of the team.
