The Pumas de la UNAM are a few hours away from starring in what could be the last opportunity for Rafa Puente del Río as technical director of the university team against Mazatlán FC; The team is not going through the best moment in the current Liga MX Clausura 2023 tournament, so the board is analyzing a drastic decision for its future.
Given this fact, the arrival of a new coach for the auriazules would be practically inevitable, with Bruno Marioni being one of the possible candidates chosen to take over the reins of the club and thus try to improve the results recorded to date in the Aztec championship.
During a recent interview for TV Azteca, the current technical director of the Venados de Yucatán did not hide his aspirations to return to Liga MX with the team of his loves, since with Pumas de la UNAM he served as a player and also had a stage as a strategist for the sports organization. In said interview, he assured that he will always be available when the team and its board need him.
“At some point I will have the possibility, if things happen to return to Pumas, undoubtedly I have a bitter taste, having been there for such a short time, having such good results, because today everything is measured by results. I have to go out with 53% effectiveness in the games that I had to direct, I don’t know if it will be now, if it will be later today I have a contract with Venados, ”said the coach.
Regarding the possible hiring of Hugo Sánchez by the feline team, Marioni expressed deep respect and admiration for his work, assuring that he is one of the great figures in Mexican soccer and especially for his work as a coach.
“I can’t compete with Hugo Sánchez, not only because of his career as a footballer but also as a coach, he is vastly superior to mine, but at the end of it all it has to do with the decisions and goals of the clubs,” he stressed.
“No matter what happens, I will always wish the best for the university, I adore it and every time I had to be there in the last few months that I directed there, I thought about the privilege I had of being there,” Marioni concluded in his interview.
