The iconic American boxer Floyd Mayweather showed that retirement has not made him lose shape after defeating the British Aaron Chalmers in the exhibition fight that took place this Saturday at the O2 Arena in London, United Kingdom.
Mayweather, who has not yet lost a fight in his professional career, extended his undefeated record to 50-0 after playing eight rounds agreed to two minutes against Chambers, in which he showed absolute dominance, showing that he can still perform at the highest level of boxing.
This was the sixth exhibition fight in which ‘Money’ has participated since he announced his retirement as a professional a few years ago. The 46-year-old boxer made it clear that he had no intention of ending the fight on the fast track and contrary to that, he took the time to show glimpses of his quality and agility in the ring.
But not everything went as the organizers expected. And it is that, although it was Mayweather, one of the most recognized boxers in the world, the fight did not generate great expectations among British fans, who did not manage to fill the facilities of the 02 Arena. In fact, the stands were practically empty.
Despite this failure in attendance, the English press has indicated that ‘Money’ will earn close to $20 million dollars for this fight. It was also known that this became the most expensive pay-per-view event in history in the United Kingdom ($35 dollars).
An anecdotal fight against a third-rank rival. Chalmers rose to stardom after the reality show Geordie Shore. He then began a discreet career in MMA (5-2) and last year made his debut as a professional boxer with a points victory in a four-round duel. Despite giving three kilos less on the scale and being 11 years younger than Mayweather, he was not even close to measuring up.
