A Care Flight plane crashed Friday near Stagecoach, Nevada, killing 5 people, including a patient and a pilot, in an investigation being led by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), it said. Saturday.
The incident occurred at 9:15 p.m. local time when the Lyon County Dispatch Center received several calls reporting a plane crash at Stagecoach, according to a news release from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
The aircraft was later confirmed to be operated by Care Flight, which is an intensive care medical transport service, CBS News reported.
The single-engine Pilatus PC-12 plane was near Iron Mountan Road in Stagecoach, according to Maria Njoku, who is a public affairs specialist for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
“We are heartbroken to report that we have now received confirmation from the Central Lyon County Fire Department that none of the five people on board survived. The five people on board were a pilot, a flight nurse, a flight paramedic, a patient, and a patient attendant. We are in the process of notifying their next of kin,” Care Flight said in a statement.
The medical service added in the statement that as is the security process of Guardian and Care Flight in these incidents, they are in the passive suspension of the flights of these companies, and they will work with each of their operations to determine when to restore the service.
Meanwhile, the Central Lyon Fire Department and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department are working with the NTSB to determine the cause of the crash. The investigation is also led by the FAA.
The NTSB is expected to provide more information on the incident after calling a press conference on Sunday.
