Dominican third baseman Manny Machado agreed to an extension to his contract with the San Diego Padres for $350 million dollars and 11 seasons in the MLB.
The new contract between the baseball player and the Major League Baseball team was achieved after Machado publicly announced that he would enter free agency after the end of this year’s season.
Faced with Machado’s position, team president Petter Seidler and general manager AJ Preller said the team’s priority was to keep the player at the club.
It is worth noting that this agreement is the third most lucrative contract extension in the history of the Major Leagues.
In this regard, Machado trails only outfielders Mookie Betts and Mike Troud, who signed for $360 million and $365 million, respectively.
Machado came to the Padres before the 2019 season, and since then has cemented his position as a team in the NL West.
Machado is coming off being the main offensive man last season for the Padres, hitting a .298 offensive line with 32 homers, 100 runs and 102 RBIs.
This performance led him to finish in second place in voting for the National League Most Valuable Player Award.
