A Minnesota man who has been on the run since he was convicted of murder and skipped the final part of his trial earlier this month has been found dead after a manhunt, authorities said Saturday.
The subject identified as Ralph Apmann, 58, was found dead Friday night at Boom Island Park in Minneapolis, according to the Minnesota Criminal Apprehension Office.
The cause and manner of death have not been determined at this time, but his body was transferred to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office for analysis.
Apmann had just posted bail that was set at $150,000 after being accused of fatally asphyxiating a Hispanic man named Juan Morales-Rivera, 40, of Worthington, in August 2021, Fox News reported.
The convict failed to appear at his murder trial, which began earlier this month in Cottonwood County, and a jury convicted him in absentia of second-degree unintentional murder on February 14.
Authorities’ search for Apmann began after he failed to appear in court, and they issued a warning that he was armed and posed a danger, allegedly carrying an AR-15 rifle and a 9mm pistol.
According to investigators, at the time of his disappearance they believed that Apmann was heading to the Twin Cities (Minneapolis and Saint Paul).
