The New York City Police Department (NYPD) reported Sunday night that a 15-year-old boy was shot multiple times in Harlem. Despite the seriousness of his injuries, the authorities assure that his recovery is stable.
So far, the police only have the description of two suspects who were dressed in black and would have fled from W. 135th and Lenox Ave, where the crime occurred. According to police records, the young man was arrested last week for possessing a weapon. The Daily News reported that so far there is no further detail of the event.
The NYPD authorities have reported an increase in cases of violence involving minors since the beginning of 2023. Only in the first weeks of the year, at least three incidents with minors as perpetrators or victims were registered in January.
These figures correspond to other NYPD reports that reflect a significant increase in violence in New York, compared to the years 2020 to 2021. According to the accounts, serious crimes increased by 4.1% with 10,067 complaints compared to the same period of last year, when 9,672 major crimes were registered.
In this sense, only on the night from Saturday to Sunday, the police responded to at least four calls of violence in Brooklyn and Queens. These incidents involved attacks with firearms and knives.
