Three weeks after the first earthquake in Turkey, this Monday, a new earthquake of magnitude 5.6 shook the country, leaving at least one dead and 69 injured.
According to the preliminary report of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the new tremor was registered in one of the areas most affected by the earthquake on February 6 in the Yeşilyurt district of Malatya, where in addition 29 buildings were demolished during the movement this Monday.
Likewise, videos broadcast through social networks show several buildings, which were already damaged by previous aftershocks, collapsing.
“Search and rescue work continues in 7 buildings,” AFAD reported on its Twitter account.
The Turkish authorities urged the population not to enter the damaged buildings, as the risk increases due to the intense aftershocks.
“A total of 650 people, who are in the region and are quickly dispatched from the surrounding provinces by air and road, are involved in the search and rescue efforts,” the agency said.
