transnistria-denies-ukraine-has-plans-for-direct-threat-as-tension-near-moldova-escalates

On Monday morning Vadim Krasnoselski denied that in the region of the Moldovan republic of Transnistria, the Ukrainian army intends to position a threat that affects the sovereignty of the Moldovan republic, which is considered a pro-Russian area. The open conflict that the Russians have been holding for a year with Ukraine seems to be shaping up to a new escalation that includes Molvadia.

This would be a new facet of the Russian offensive which is in its third phase and in preparation for a series of stronger attacks on Ukraine. However, given these new tensions in the region, Western countries fear an internationalization of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. “If the people are threatened by a real danger, the president will quickly and personally inform the citizens about it. The important thing is not to panic,” Krasnoselski said.

The pro-Russian leader acknowledged the tensions in his territory because the majority of its population is of Russian and Ukrainian origin. From the Kremlin they have reiterated that the situation regarding the sovereignty of Moldova is a concern since the end of 2022. In addition to that, the Russian government spokesman, Dmitri Peskov, affirmed that the situation in that area is not calm, pointing out that Kiev and the West they may engage in military provocation or false flag operations to escalate the conflict.

Moldova is another flash point

President Vladimir Putin put on the table a new point of tension after revoking on Tuesday 21 a 2012 decree that his country recognized the sovereignty of Moldova. An important point of the new tensions is that Moldova is not part of the European Union or the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), although it maintains close military collaboration with Finland, Georgia and Sweden.

Since last week the Russians have pointed out that Ukraine intends to carry out a false flag military operation, using Russian military uniforms to occupy Transnistria which has strategic value for both Russians as well. Even so, Volodimir Zelensky has said that these are completely false accusations.

On the other hand, the Moldovan president of the joint control commission in the security zone around Transnistria, Alexandru Flenchea, affirmed that this nullity on the part of the Russians does not mean that they abandon the notion of sovereignty of Moldova.
