A restaurant waitress discovered a trick that helped her get better tips, and that is to tell customers that she has children, although this is not true.
The waitress, who goes by Deirdre (@ddeirdreee) on TikTok, shared the advice with her followers in a video on the social network. The girl also recommended said white lie to her co-workers.
In the video, Deirdre explains that she works at a breakfast restaurant where many families with children go. Recently, it happened that she was serving at a table where there were a couple of children who were very messy and her parents apologized to her for her behavior.
“For some reason, instead of saying my usual ‘Oh, okay, I’ll clean it up,’ I said, ‘Okay, I’ve got little ones at home,’” the waitress said.
Customers asked how old Deirdre’s alleged children were, and she lied that they were two and four. She also made up that they were very cute.
As it turned out, when customers left the restaurant, they left Deirdre a very good tip, she said.
The girl went on to say in the video: “I did that all day, and my tips were way higher than they usually are. For the record, I am 22 years old and I have no children.
Apparently, the TikToker isn’t the only waitress lying to get better tips. And it is that other restaurant workers commented that they also do it.
“I lie about whatever suits me at the time. Serving is a performing art,” wrote a TikTok user in the comment box of the post.
Responding to the comment, Deirdre said: “There’s a reason so many actors were waiters before they became famous.”
“When I was a waitress, I lied and said that I was a single mother with 2 children and a university student… I had the best tips,” another user commented.
