The situation faced by the Brazilian soccer player Dani Alves for allegedly having sexually abused a 23-year-old woman at the Sutton nightclub in the city of Barcelona has become one of the most controversial events in recent years, especially due to the statements made by the player who constantly change.
Alves has been in preventive detention for a month in the Brians II prison, after the Barcelona Court dismissed the appeal filed by the player’s defense to be released on probation.
Now new details about the trial have been revealed, since El Mundo pointed out that the trial against Dani Alves is expected to be formally held this year; Said decision is due to the fact that the Court of Barcelona itself and the Prosecutor’s Office determined that the investigation is in its final stage.
“To all the arguments we must add that the investigation is practically finished when a month has passed since the arrest of Mr. Alves. Since he was arrested, numerous statements have been made ”, detailed the Barcelona Court.
“Therefore, it is foreseeable -and desirable- that in a short period of time the investigation is completed and the summary concluded, so that provisional detention can be maintained for a reasonable period of time, without reaching the legally established maximums,” they added.
According to El Mundo, there are still psychological reports on the victim to contribute to the investigation and determine how much the sexual assault by Dani Alves affected him.
If found guilty, article 179 of the Spanish Penal Code stipulates that penetrative sexual assault carries a penalty ranging from four to 12 years in prison. However, the accusations are added to an alleged abuse of authority, which raises the sentence from 8 to 10 years.
