A former Little Caesars worker, who goes by Trevy (@dangtrevy), said in a video he posted to TikTok that the pizza chain made him pay for two T-shirts he wore as a uniform that cost him a whopping $25 each. a. The video already has more than 167,000 views.
“Apparently this shirt is worth $25 and it will be deducted from my $11 an hour wage,” Trevy wrote in a text overlay on the video.
In the comment sections of the video, Trevy explained his situation in greater detail.
“The general manager said to return the jerseys or they will be deducted from my salary. So I guess my check will be $50 less this week. The managers at this location are a joke,” the former worker said.
According to Trevy, he will have a $50 deduction from his last paycheck to pay for the two jerseys he wore as a uniform.
In the comments, many users expressed their discontent with companies that force their employees to pay for the uniforms they must wear.
“You should immediately leave places that do that,” wrote one user.
Another user jokingly said that because the pizzas are only $5, Little Caesars has to make a profit from somewhere, which is why the shirts are so expensive.
A third TikTok user said: “If they force their employees to wear company clothes, then the company should pay for it.”
It should be noted that, according to The Daily Dot, on this matter Little Caesars said: “Little Caesars does not charge (workers) for company-provided uniforms. If you terminate employment with the company, we kindly request that you return your uniforms at the end of your last day of work. Some independent franchisees may have different policies.”
In the United States it is not uncommon for companies to make employees pay for uniforms. In fact, this practice is legal as long as the worker’s wage is not less than the federal minimum, which is $7.25 per hour. This is indicated in the so-called Fair Labor Normal Law.
