The Argentine from Atlanta United, Thiago Almada, won the MLS Matchday 1 Most Valuable Player (MVP) award on Tuesday, in an award he received for his outstanding commitment against San José Earthquakes.
Almada was the most prominent figure in the entire American league by scoring the two goals for Atlanta United that ultimately gave them a 2-1 victory against their rival.
However, the most outstanding thing was that the World Champion in the Qatar 2022 World Cup matched the actions at 90+3 with a kick from outside the area and later scored the agonizing goal at 90+9 to give his team victory in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The Argentine, trained in Vélez Sarsfield, celebrated the first double of his career in MLS, after scoring six goals and distributing twelve assists last year, in his first campaign in American soccer.
His goals also allowed him to equal his compatriot Héctor Villalba, the Venezuelan Josef Martínez and the Paraguayan Miguel Almirón as the only Atlanta United players capable of signing twenty goal contributions in their first 30 MLS games.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected weekly during the regular season through media and fan voting in a process conducted by the MLS Office of Communications.
