A Honduran national who served a two-year federal sentence for re-entering the United States several times after being deported, was sent back to Honduras, where he is wanted for murder, according to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE). .
The subject identified as Rufino Garza Monroy, 48, was found guilty in 2021 by a Texas federal court on charges of irregular re-entry, ICE reported in a statement.
Immigration authorities were unable to determine the exact date he entered the United States illegally. The man entered the radar of ICE agents when he was at the Huntsville, Texas State Penitentiary, where he was being held for aggravated robbery.
In May 2010 Garza was deported to Honduras for the first time. In 2019, Border Patrol agents detained the Hispanic after entering the country through the southern border, and in February of that year he was deported again to Honduran territory.
The third time Garza entered the country irregularly was on April 2, 2021, near Roma, Texas, where he was re-arrested by Border Patrol.
The subject was accused by the Department of Justice for multiple entries, and achieved a 24-month sentence, which he served 90% of, to be deported again after a request from the Honduran government, since he is wanted in connection with a homicide.
The director of the deportation office (ERO) in Houston, an ICE unit, Gabriel Martínez, pointed out that foreign fugitives who enter the country illegally to flee criminal charges in their country of origin will not find a safe haven.
