Russia accused the United States and its allies on Tuesday of preparing a provocation with toxic chemical agents in Ukraine and assured that a consignment of these substances arrived on February 10 in Kramatorsk, the main Ukrainian stronghold in the Donetsk region, annexed by Moscow on September 30.
The commander of the radiological, chemical and biological defense troops of the Russian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Igor Kirilov, affirmed that the preparations for this provocation “advance at full speed”, in a press appearance broadcast by the Rossia channel 24 of Russian state television.
According to the military, on February 22, the former US ambassador to Russia, John Sullivan, stated that “Russian troops plan to use chemical weapons in the area of the special military operation” as Moscow calls its military campaign in Ukraine.
“We value this information as the purpose of the United States and its accomplices to carry out a provocation with toxic chemical agents in Ukraine,” Kirilov said.
He added that a consignment of chemical substances arrived by train on the 10th to Kramatorsk in 16 metal boxes, half of which were marked with the letters BZ and two red lines.
Kirilov explained that this name indicates that this chemical agent, the use of which is prohibited, causes “acute psychosis, loss of orientation, hallucinations and memory impairment.”
He noted that, in addition, a large consignment of individual defense means is planned to be supplied to Ukraine, including, among others, 600,000 vials of antidote against organophosphorus compounds.
“The fact of the simultaneous supply of toxic chemical substances and means of protection against them show an attempt to carry out a great provocation in the use of the BZ psychotropic chemical weapon,” the Russian general stressed.
