the-92-year-old-maine-woman-who-works-“tracking-the-weather”-for-noaa

A 92-year-old woman who lives in Maine, despite her advanced age, remains active since for a little over 6 decades she has worked for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) as a “climate tracker.”

The name of this woman is Arlene Coles and who since 1965 has dedicated herself to collecting meteorological information, work she has always done from her home, for which she has the title of official NOAA observer.

Arlene began doing this work after one of her friends who did it died and is part of a national network of some 7,500 volunteers who do this sampling and tracking of weather conditions for NOAA.

The old woman still keeps her old records with the recordings she made, as well as the books where she wrote down all her records.

Also, the woman explains that her work is easy to carry out, since, for example, she can measure how much snow has fallen in a day with a giant ruler that she has placed in her garden and that she can observe from her kitchen window. In the same way, she has thermometers, both inside and outside, all connected to a reader that is placed in the room.

In the same way, it collects rain or snow in metal cylinders in order to carry out its records, pampering that it sends once a month by mail.

Coles also indicated that he doesn’t care how old he is; she wants to continue doing this work for NOAA since she finds it extremely interesting and that she will only retire the day she believes that she no longer has the capacity to do it.
