A man who suffered an accident a few days ago on a four-wheeler while walking along a beach in Argentina appeared dead inside the stomach of a shark.
Argentine Diego Barria, 32-year-old father of three, was last seen riding a Yamaha Raptor off-road motorcycle along a stretch of coastline in Chubut province 10 days ago.
His wife, Virginia, posted messages on her Facebook profile, asking for reports on her husband after his disappearance.
However, two days later, his damaged all-terrain vehicle and helmet were found on a beach near Rocas Coloradas, a protected area of lagoons, dunes and colored rock formations.
They discover the remains of Diego Barria in a shark
With no news until then, last weekend, two locals went fishing and managed to pull three sharks out of the sea and when they cut them open to clean and prepare them to eat, they found human remains.
As noted on his website The Telegraph, a tattoo representing a rose was still visible on the arm of the body that matched a tattoo that Barria had, which allowed him to be identified.
“When they were cleaning (the sharks) they found human remains in one of them,” said Daniela Millatruz, one of the agents in charge of the investigation.
The remains were recognized by Barria’s relatives “by a tattoo that appeared on one of those remains.”
It is believed that Barria, who was fond of fishing and other outdoor activities, was involved in an accident on his four-wheeler, knocked unconscious and then washed into the sea; there was a strong swell the day he disappeared.
Then it would have been easy prey for sharks, which were around 1.5 meters long.
It is likely that Barria “had an accident and was dragged” out to sea, according to Cristian Ansaldo, a police officer from the nearby town of Comodoro Rivadavia. He said there was a strong swell the weekend Barria went missing.
That theory was backed up by José Mazzei, a civil protection official, who told Argentine media that Barria was probably unconscious on the beach when a high tide swept him out to sea.
The body parts will undergo DNA testing to confirm that they are the remains of the Argentine adventurer.
