Layoffs have not ended on Twitter, because in Elon Musk’s attempt to fine-tune his new acquisition, he considers that the social network should operate with fewer people.
In information released by Bloomberg, on Saturday night another slice of employees was eliminated, which is intended to make the company more efficient while reducing costs.
On this occasion, the affected departments were engineering and products, according to people familiar with the situation, who assure that those chosen to leave the company were notified by email and that others found out when they could no longer enter the system. of the company.
Twitter has not officially reported how many people were affected by this new layoff, but according to sources, around 50 employees have been out of work since the weekend.
Among those who left would be several startup founders who joined Twitter through acquisitions in recent years, including a founder of newsletter startup Revue and another of design firm Ueno. Twitter is said to have avoided ditching founders to avoid large stock grants.
A few months ago Musk had asked for the full commitment of those who would stay in the project and that if necessary, they should sleep in the offices as proof of loyalty and commitment to the company.
But apparently not even that is enough to continue working with Musk, as Esther Crawford, a senior executive in charge of Twitter Blue, the site’s subscription service, was also fired.
After Musk came to the CEO of Twitter and dictated the new rules, the executive posted a message that went viral, mentioning that employees would sometimes have to sleep in their offices to meet work deadlines, in order to hashtag #SleepWhereYouWork.
On Sunday, after the new mass layoff, Crawford wrote a message on Twitter: “The worst opinion people could have after seeing me go all-in on Twitter 2.0 is that my optimism or hard work was a mistake (…) I am deeply proud of the team we built amid all the noise and chaos.”
