A New York Police Officer (NYPD) was seriously injured and her husband killed when she crashed her personal pickup truck into a tree on Palisades Interstate Parkway while off duty, splitting the vehicle in two.

It was the second fatal accident over the weekend on that highway in Rockland County, after Michael Paradis (56) also died Friday night when he hit a tree for apparently driving too fast at Exit 16, Stony Point. He was the only person on board, he said. News 12.

According to state police (NYSP), the second deadly collision took place around 3 a.m. Sunday when the northbound 2021 Hyundai SUV veered off the road near Exit 13 in Haverstraw and crashed into a tree.

The unidentified policewoman was behind the wheel and was taken to Nyack Hospital in critical condition. Her husband, Chevy Thomas, 36, of Maybrook, was pronounced dead at the scene, Trooper Steven Nevel confirmed.
