faa-issues-safety-alert-to-airlines-and-pilots-after-spike-in-incidents

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) launched an alert addressed to airlines, pilots and personnel involved in the airline industry, to emphasize the need to maintain vigilance and pay attention to mitigating security risks.

So far this year there have been different events on the track, which due to their seriousness led the agency to convene a security summit last week.

The FAA notes that while the global figures do not reflect an increase in incidents and occurrences, the potential severity of these occurrences is concerning.

Following the summit, the agency issued a security alert outlining specific steps it wants airlines, pilots and personnel involved in the airline industry to take.

The FAA urges the following actions:

– Ensure that pilots and flight attendants have the same understanding of what “sterile flight bridge” means and the risks associated with extraneous communication during this time.
– Emphasize the importance of aircraft knowledge in relation to taxiways, runways and other aircraft. This includes reviewing the following security measures:
High risk of collision when crossing the runway
· Runway incursion prevention actions
Flight crew techniques and procedures to improve safety on taxi, before takeoff and after landing to reduce the risk of runway incursions
– Encourage staff to identify and report existing and emerging security issues through voluntary reporting programs.
– Enforce compliance with published processes and procedures, including checklists, air traffic control instructions, and internal company procedures.
– Ensure that safety management systems take into account the high rate of change and turnover in the industry.

Among the events that have occurred this year are a rapprochement between FedEx planes and Southwest Airlines in Austin, Texas, which could have caused a serious accident, and the runway incursion of an American Airlines plane in New York that did not comply with the security protocols.
