A 2-year-old boy was reported missing after his mother was found dead on Thursday in what police in Florida described as a “very violent” scene.
The Amber Alert for Taylen Mosley was issued statewide Thursday afternoon following the discovery of her mother, 20-year-old Pashun Jeffrey, in an apartment in St. Petersburg.
“Detectives followed leads overnight but have not located the child,” the St. Petersburg Police Department said on Facebook.
Police added that they now have a new team investigating the apartment complex, noting the local Fire Department and the dive team are searching nearby retention ponds.
The boy’s father was named a person of interest in the disappearance, but police have said he does not have the boy.
St. Petersburg Police Chief Anthony Holloway said Mosley was last seen Wednesday with his mother outside an apartment in Lincoln Shores around 5:30 p.m. Thursday, FOX 13 Tampa Bay reported.
Reports said a neighbor came forward to say he heard “commotion” coming from the apartment that night, but police were not summoned to the scene.
“Earlier today, the family did not hear from the deceased, so they asked the apartment manager to come check on them,” the station said, citing Holloway.
At that time, police found Jeffrey’s body around 2:30 pm at what Holloway described as a “very violent” crime scene, FOX 13 Tampa Bay said.
The Amber Alert for Mosley indicated that the boy is in danger, and that he was last seen in the area of the 11600 block of 4th Street North in St. Petersburg.
Authorities in St. Petersburg asked the public to come forward if they have any information on Mosley’s whereabouts.
“This is an active investigation and we will post additional updates as they become available,” he added.
