A goal by Argentine Rodolfo Rotondi and another by Mexican Rodrigo Huescas were enough for Cruz Azul to beat Pachuca this Saturday in the Closing Tournament of Liga MX for Matchday 13 of the tournament.
The victory pushed Cruz Azul up the table, reaching 20 points and establishing itself in eighth place in the standings, two units away from tying Toluca, which is currently fourth in the table.
Despite the fall, Uruguayan coach Guillermo Almada’s Tuzos continued in fifth place with 22 points.
Cruz Azul went ahead with their first shot on goal of the match when at minute 9 Rotondi finished off with his left foot from midrange to make it 0-1 through the left post of Argentine goalkeeper Oscar Ustari.
Despite not dominating possession of the ball, the celestes continued as the most dangerous of the first half, however Ustari saved his mark a couple of times by stopping a shot from Uriel Antuna, at 23, and another from Rodrigo Huescas, at 44.
Los Tuzos advanced lines in the second half and were close to equalizing the score, but goalkeeper José de Jesús Corona avoided it by making a good bilge on a shot from Roberto de la Rosa, at 49, and by rejecting a mid-range shot Mauricio Isais, at 59.
When Pachuca played better, Cruz Azul increased its advantage. The recently admitted Argentine Augusto Lotti took advantage of a bad clearance from the Tuza defense to steal a ball, enter the area and cross a service that Huescas pushed for 0-2 at 67 that sentenced the game.
