This Saturday the NBA reached a historic agreement with the National Players Association in which players are decriminalized for consuming marijuana; This was reported by the same NBPA that published the new tentative agreements of the league.
Until this season, NBA players were subjected to tests to determine if they had used drugs and in case of testing positive for marijuana three times, they were suspended for five games; but with this new agreement, marijuana will be excluded from the list and will not be penalized.
Kevin Durant smiles
One of the NBA players who has been a faithful defender of marijuana is Kevin Durant, who has stated in multiple interviews that he is a regular cannabis user and had recently commented that: “marijuana is just marijuana, and it does not harm people.” nobody. Help, and make things better. It shouldn’t even be a debate.”
But not only Durant has publicly admitted that he uses marijuana, former players Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson have also, even the current NBA champion Klay Thompson was arrested in 2011 for possession of cannabis, although on that occasion he admitted that he only used it medicinally to soothe muscle pain.
Some people close to the American basketball environment affirm that more than half of the players in the league use marijuana.
Without a doubt, this agreement in the NBA will be an important step in the decriminalization of drugs and other substances in sports.
