A tragic moment occurred this Saturday when a fan died while he was in the Veltins Arena stadiums watching the match between Schalke 04 and Bayer Leverkusen, corresponding to matchday 23 of the German Bundesliga.
The last minutes of the match that ended 0-3 in favor of Leverkusen were passing, when the spectator, who has not yet been identified, suddenly fainted. Shortly after, the medical service personnel present at the premises went to attend to him but they could not do anything.
Shortly after the game ended, the local team, Schalke 04, spoke confirming the “sad news” of the death of one of their followers, letting it be known that the resuscitation attempts made by medical personnel were “unsuccessful.”
“Football is taking a backseat today,” said the blue and white team, while expressing their regret over the situation and sending their condolences to the relatives of the fan who died in their stadium.
“We are devastated to report that a fan collapsed in the south stand today and passed away despite resuscitation attempts. Our thoughts are with his friends and family. May he rest in peace,” the team wrote on their Twitter account.
