The Yankees announced that Florial was cut from the roster and his place was taken by right-hander Colten Brewer, whom they recently acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays. The pitcher will be part of the bullpen starting this weekend.
The 25-year-old Dominican has not been able to perform in the best way in the few opportunities he received with the New York team. And it is that, between 2020 and 2023 he could barely play 30 games in which he left an average of .185 with a home run and three RBIs.
For his part, Brewer is coming off pitching most of the 2022 season at the Triple-A branch of the Kansas City Royals, where he went 1-1 with a 4.76 ERA in 39.2 innings before entering free agency.
In December of last year, he reached a minor league deal with the Rays that included an invite to spring training. There he pitched 9.1 scoreless innings but was optioned to Triple-A Durham prior to the start of the MLB season.
The right-hander, who has four years of experience in the Major Leagues, had his best moment in 2019, when wearing the Boston Red Sox uniform, he posted a 4.12 ERA in 54.2 innings worked.
