The Mexican driver Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez not only did the fastest lap of the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix, but also saved himself from being involved in a serious accident.
The man from Guadalajara gave a lecture on the skill he has behind the wheel when maneuvering a single-seater and coming out well at the Albert Park circuit.
Just after the second red flag restarted the drivers started at high speed to finish in the best possible position.
That made the race a bit bumpy, and in one corner, Perez went into the sand trap. However, he managed to maneuver and get back on track, and that was when the most dangerous thing happened.
At that moment, the Alpine cars, driven by Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly, collided and went towards the retaining wall, which caused parts of the cars to be thrown.
‘Checo’s’ car received several impacts, but the driver managed to control his car and continue the race to finish in fifth position.
