One person died and three others were injured after a shooting during a drug deal in front of a shopping center in Los Angeles, California, authorities said.

In the events Saturday, multiple suspects shot each other in what police believe was a dispute over a narcotics deal in a parking lot in the Vanowen and Fallbrook area of the West Hills around 3:45 p.m. , according to Los Angeles Police Department Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton.

The deceased man has not been identified by police, while three victims were struck by gunfire and taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Two of the injured could face charges after being released, Deputy Chief Hamilton said.

Meanwhile, the three suspects have been in police custody since Saturday night, and investigators believe the shooting occurred in a conflict between gang members, Hamilton added.

“We believe that all of the individuals involved in this dispute have been identified and we believe that we have them in custody or have them where we can provide medical care,” the deputy chief said, adding that two firearms were recovered at the scene.

A vehicle with broken windows was detected leaving the scene and was tracked by a Los Angeles Police Department helicopter, Hamilton said.

“That suspect was involved in a hit-and-run traffic collision, injured another person and continued to flee the area,” Hamilton said. “Later they changed vehicles and the air units saw them change vehicles and directed the ground units to the place where the suspect was fleeing.”

The vehicle was stopped after a chase that lasted between two and three minutes. The suspect and a female driver who fled the scene were taken into custody.

One person was injured in the hit-and-run incident and was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
