An unprecedented episode occurred on matchday 13 of the MX League when referee Fernando Hernández kneed Lucas Romero, an Argentine player from Club León, during the match that ended in a 2-2 draw against Club América.

The action occurred in the 66th minute. At that moment, Hernández showed the yellow card to Romero, who with his hands behind his back ended up facing him from very close. It seems that the physical friction did not like the main judge, who ended up dropping a knee.

When he felt the blow, the León midfielder fell to the ground showing signs of pain, although he was able to finish the game.

The video of the attack was a trend in Mexico and hundreds of Internet users expressed their rejection of it. At the moment the Arbitration Commission has not ruled, but among the sentences that Hernández could face is a suspension that would go between 1 and 15 games, in addition to a financial fine.

At the time of the mishap the game was 1-1 with goals from José Alfonso Alvarado (45+2′) and Diego Valdés (63′). At minute 68, Henry Martín put Las Águilas to win but Tico player Joel Campbell saved a draw at discount (90+4′) to leave the score level at 2-2.

With the result, América occupies the fourth position in the Liga MX with 24 points, while León is second with 25, both with 13 games played.
