A Spanish member of GD Chaves died this Sunday in Portugal after suffering a cardiorespiratory arrest at his club’s stadium, while he was watching a match against Sporting de Braga, within the framework of matchday 26 of the Portuguese League.
“The Grupo Deportivo de Chaves and the respective SAD express their deepest regret for the death of our partner José Luís Carrasco Cruz, 72 years old, a native of Verín (Spain) (…) after a cardiorespiratory arrest while attending the match between the GD Chaves and SC Braga”, the club disclosed in a statement.
The man died at the Hospital de Chaves – Hospital Center of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, in the Portuguese town of Chaves, about 100 kilometers from the Galician city of Orense.
The match, which ended with a 1-2 victory for Braga, was held at the Engenheiro Manuel Branco Teixeira Municipal Stadium.
Both the Portuguese League and Braga have released statements of regret over the death of the fan and have conveyed their condolences to family and friends.
